Project Status, Translation Notes, and Disclaimer

This summary reflects the current build so you can quickly see what is stable, what is still in progress, and why some output can differ from official printed liturgical books.

Currently Working

  • Daily Mass: Date-based readings, interleaved Ordinary/Proper flow, in-line Penitential Act selector, weekday Gloria handling, bilingual rendering support, and role-labeled dialogue rendering.
  • Liturgical day context: Season, Sunday/weekday lectionary cycle, Liturgy of the Hours volume, rosary series, and vestment (liturgical color) shown on the homepage and Mass page.
  • Readable citations: Scripture citations spell out the book name (e.g. Os → Hosea) across Mass and Prayer.
  • Responsorial Psalm: Stanza grouping by citation segments with refrain repetition between stanzas.
  • Daily Prayer: Hour/date flow with DRB-first reading lookup, standardized doxology handling, and intercessions rendered as petition/response pairs.
  • Unified launcher: One root app shell that links Mass, Prayer, and Rosary, with a daily scripture hero.
  • Performance: Readings and calendar data stay fast; slow sources (Calapi, liturgy.day) are optional and non-blocking.

Known Gaps / In Progress

  • Some Proper texts still use connector/template fallback language instead of full approved day-specific text.
  • Calendar metadata can be limited when Calapi times out, with fallback celebration labeling used instead.
  • Responsorial refrain sourcing can still be imperfect when source APIs provide only French refrain text or only verse citations.
  • A modern English translation is not yet integrated as a selectable source; the forthcoming Catholic American Bible (CAB) is the planned option.
  • This is a prayer aid build and not yet a complete official liturgical publication workflow.

Translation and Scripture Sources Used

  • Mass readings feed: AELF endpoint data, normalized for app rendering.
  • Calendar and rank metadata: Calapi (when reachable), otherwise fallback synthesis.
  • Liturgical calendar cycle: liturgy.day for season, Sunday/weekday cycle, Liturgy of the Hours volume, and rosary series.
  • Scripture verse text in lookup paths: Douay-Rheims (DRB) verse index from local text resources.
  • French handling: Heuristics attempt to avoid French bleed-through and prefer English render paths where possible.

Roadmap / Coming Soon

  • Catholic American Bible (CAB) as a selectable translation alongside Douay-Rheims once released.
  • Fuller approved proper prayer texts where licensing allows.
  • Edition-specific Liturgy of the Hours page references.
  • Installable (PWA) and offline support for travel.
  • Saved preferences and recent reading history.

Liturgical Disclaimer

Output may not always match the exact wording, line breaks, or approved text segmentation used in official Missal and Lectionary publications. Reasons include mixed upstream data providers, translation normalization, fallback logic when APIs are unavailable, and portions of propers still under connector/template development.

For binding liturgical text, always defer to approved diocesan or episcopal conference publications and authorized printed/official digital liturgical books.
